During World War I, hundreds of New Canaan residents joined together to sew comfort bags for soldiers overseas. When the second World War began, those same volunteers as well as new residents organized to form a war relief committee, the Red Cross Motor Corps and a blood bank.

Land of the free, home of the brave. Not all our brave troops come home, though. Nothing can adequately thank them or their loved ones for their sacrifice. But people like Lorrie Brown and Patti Cawley use their talents with needle and thread to bring comfort to the families left behind.
Beautiful as they are, the Civil War replica quilts Lorrie and Patti make aren't intended to be showpieces. The quilts are meant to be cuddled into, with the knowledge that somebody cares and remembers the family's loss.
