Life imitates reality TV. Shows like Project Runway have prompted a resurgence of interest in sewing. Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores have seen double-digit increases in enrollment for beginning sewing classes. Another reason for the increased interest â sewing saves money.

View Academy made 78 whimsical pillowcases to brighten faces and hospital beds at Wolfson Children's Hospital. The teen girls, home economics students at the private Westside school, delivered their pillowcases, along with about 400 more created by volunteers at the Viking Sewing Gallery inside Joann's in Argyle.
