January Update - My one and only...

Not only have I not posted anything since the new year but January is almost over. I've been meaning to take the time to let you know whats new at Learn 2 Sew. Today is the day....

Since my last post I've gotten a lesson on merchant accounts. I wanted to be able to accept master card and visa as payments for my students. The company I ended up going with sold me one thing and was charging me another. They ended up taking out 35% of what I brought in through their service. I had to close out that account - start another one which took a lot of time. My laptop also crashed on me. This is my first laptop and don't know how to fix it. It had all my information on it. Some things were saved but a lot wasn't. I've also had problems with my sewing machines. Only when I'm teaching though. When I sit down to sew on them they work fine. It's only when a students goes to sew on them. And my car got broken into. So, I've had to jump over some hurdles this past month which I guess is why I haven't come here to talk about sewing....

Ahhh Sewing...... The time when I can empty my mind and enjoy my creations.

I ended up making my daughter Hannah Montana clothes for Christmas. Simplicity has the Hannah patterns. I used fabric that was given to me to make a top and some dark blue poly/cotton blend to make a short jacket. She liked them. The kids grow so fast so I decided to make it a little bigger on her so she could have it longer. The first thing she said when she put it on was "It's a little big Mommy but don't worry, I'll grow into it". Made me smile. More Hannah clothes are on the project list to make.

I made myself some drawstring pants. I needed some new ones and didn't have time to shop so the next best thing was to make them. I don't have any pictures but if you come in I'm sure I will be wearing them one day.

I've also made my little mans pants longer by cutting off the hem of his jeans - added some more fabric from an old pair of jeans to the bottom - then reattached the hem I cut off. They fit him a few months ago but he's growing so fast that you can see 3 -4" of his ankles. This is a great way to get more out of all the money we spend on clothing. He wore them to school today. I'm going to do this to more of his pants but next time I'll use the same color of fabric. This was all I had at the time.

I would have a lot more pictures to show you but I lost them when my laptop died. Even when I do take the pictures it doesn't make it to this blog. If it's not one thing its another :)

One thing I have learned about my serger machine. I was having a lot of problems with it sewing properly. I had black thread in it. I found out that you can't use black thread because of the dye in the thread. Sure enough, I changed to white thread and my overlock started working again. Sounds like something so silly. And the hours I spent trying to fix it...it ended up being the color of the thread.

I have a desire to make fabric art. I have a few ideas with different shapes. I'll share them with you real soon. I feel the need to be creative....very creative.

Until next time,
Enjoy your moments, make them "sew" much fun,
Cindy
